Ultrasonic sensors are one of the most reliable and affordable ways to measure the distance of an object to the sensor. Thanks to their technology and its specificity, these sensors can also be used to measure the level of liquids or granules in various containers. One of the most advanced applications of this type of sensor is measuring the level of household waste in a garbage can.
These sensors have key or analog output. In the first type, it is an isolated transistor output that can be connected as PNP or NPN. The NO or NC function is determined by the connection method. The key type of ultrasonic sensors can be set to two limit positions of the working range of the sensor. They also have three modes of operation:
switching with hysteresis (fig.1)
window (fig.2)
switching in limit (fig.3)
In the second type of analog ultrasonic sensors, I have built-in voltage (0-10V) and current (0-20mA) output. Again, two limit positions of the sensor's operating range can be set between which the entire characteristic of the outputs can be stretched with the desired slope.
There are several ultrasonic sensors for distance and level produced by us - M14, M18, M30, 73, and each one of them is characterized by a different working distance.
