Position sensor for solar tracker STS-410

The STS410 is a microprocessor positioning system with an integrated driver for direct DC motor control. It is mounted on the frame of the photo-voltaic panel – in one plane with the panel, without the possibility of shading from other objects, with the cable entry down. It can work independently or in combination with a STS316 hand-held treadmill.

The principle of action is as follows: a differential sensor determines the deviation from the direction of the sun. The microprocessor processes the data and, if necessary, corrects the position of the panel in order to maximize the use of solar energy. Panel rotation time (without interruption) is from 1 to 120 seconds. When this time has elapsed, the sensor stops the motor – it detects no movement on the track. When the end position is reached, the sensor detects a limit switch trigger (the power consumption is below the minimum) and stops the supply of voltage to the motor. It is possible to continue only in the opposite direction.
When solar energy falls below 10W / m², the sensor positions the panel in a horizontal position / only for the STS-410-02 / model.
The device incorporates overload protection (in case of faulty mechanics or limit switch), short circuit protection in the motor circuit, protection against dropping of the supply voltage and overheating protection. The status is indicated by an LED mounted on the board:

– flashes 4 times / lights 0.5 sec. – pause 0.5sec. / at an interval of 2 seconds. – short circuit in the motor circuit;
– flashes 5 times / lights 0.5 sec. – pause 0.5sec. / at an interval of 2 seconds. – low power supply (below 20V);
– flashes 6 times / lights 0.5 sec. – pause 0.5sec. / at an interval of 2 seconds. – sensor overheating (over 90 degrees)
